Canadian’s Salary vs American’s Salary Statistics

I came by this news a few days ago. It is a study about Canadian salary conducted by Statistics Canada. Here are some highlights:

  • “An annual income of $89,000 was enough to put an individual among the 1.2 million Canadians who made up the top 5% of the country’s taxfiler population in 2004, according to a new study.”
  • “they accounted for 25% of total income.”
  • 1.2 million Canadians who comprised the top 5% of income recipients…”

The taxman are Watching Your Ebay (Canada) Sales

I just read an article from Globe and Mail about CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) won a Federal Court order requiring eBay Canada Ltd. to turn over the names, addresses, phone numbers and e-mail addresses of all high-volume sellers on the popular website.

The investigation is targeting sellers who are in the PowerSeller program in 2004 – 2005. To be qualified as a Power Seller, sellers must have at least $1,000 sales a month.

A Word A Day 每日一字: Farther and Further

I was looking up the spelling of “farther” when I wrote my previous post, so of course, I googled. The first result is quite interesting. It actually tells you the different between further and farther. From the link:

FARTHER denotes physical advancement in distance.
FURTHER denotes advancement to greater degree, as in time.

Mattel Recalled Toys Research Report Posted on University of Western Ontario (Canada)

I was reading some comments from digg.com about the Mattel Apology news. It is along the line where Mattel is “forced” to apologize otherwise they will put their coming Christmas season in jeopardy… I really don’t know on what does the writer base his accusation? Anyways, this gives me enough motive to google the research report, and I FOUND IT on University of Western Ontario website :) …

Finally Mattel Admits the Truth Behind the Recalls…

From my previous entry, I have been saying “Mattel shouldn’t use others’ mistakes to cover up its own.”. Here is what I have read from NewsFactor.com.

  • “”And Mattel takes full responsibility for these recalls and apologizes personally to you, the Chinese people, and all of our customers who received the toys,” Debrowski said.” (Thomas A. Debrowski, Mattel’s executive vice president)
  • “Debrowski acknowledged that “vast majority of those products that were recalled were the result of a design flaw in Mattel’s design, not through a manufacturing flaw in China’s manufacturers.”"

Questioning Technique Learned From Radio

I was listening to a radio show yesterday and the host was questioning one of the Ontario Election Candidates Michael Chan of Ontario Liberal Party. I don’t really have a good impression from this particular host but he did give me a surprise. Here is part of the interview…

More Statistics about Mattel’s Recall That You May Miss…

I was watching Hong Kong news before I went back to work today. According to Hong Kong TVB News (Sept 10, 2007 Afternoon News), here are some more statistics that you may not heard of in North America’s media. “A report done by a Canadian Institute indicates that over the last 15 years, the toy recalls are mainly due to design flaw, not manufacturing defects.”
